Devon Air Ambulance Trust is the charity that raises the funds to keep Devon’s two air ambulances flying and fleet of Critical Care Cars responding. We can only be there for those in need, with your continued kindness and support. Together, we are Devon Air Ambulance.

Story

**UPDATE**

On Monday 22 March, Simon was involved in a serious accident at work and sustained a fractured skull. He was airlifted to Derriford Hospital and underwent emergency neurosurgery to remove a blood clot on the brain. After a successful operation he was kept sedated and ventilated for 2 weeks in intensive care, before being transferred to RD&E and eventually Mardon Neuro Rehabilitation Centre. Simon has now returned home to continue his rehabilitation & therapy in the community. If you would like to keep up to date with Simon’s progress, please visit www.callingabout.org.uk/profiles/simon-brassington/ where you can view updates and post messages of support.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported Simon’s fundraising efforts for DAAT so far; he’s been blown away by the generosity of friends, family and strangers. Although Simon will not be able to take part this year, in the ‘Race to the Stones’ ultra-marathon as planned, we have deferred his entry in the hope that he will be able to at some point in the future. As a way of honouring the donations Simon has received so far and encouraging further donations whilst he’s recovering, 20 of his friends and family will cover a total distance of 100km — running 5km each in a relay format.

So until he gets back on his feet, we hope you’ll join us in keeping this thing going - for Simon and for the amazing work of Devon Air Ambulance Trust who — yet again — have been there for our family, and others in need.

Dad has been fortunate (or unfortunate...) enough to have relied upon and used the Devon Air Ambulance twice; first in 2015 when he was knocked off his motorbike and most recently at the end of 2020 when he was hit by a car when cycling. Thanks to the service of the DAAT (Devon Air Ambulance Trust) he was able to be air lifted straight from the scene of the accidents to hospital to receive treatment ASAP. Upon realisation after this second incident that the DAAT was in fact a charity funded organisation, I was astounded and felt it was time to give back to help them continue to do their amazing work. Come July 10th 2021 I will be taking part in Race to the Stones 100km Trail Ultra-marathon. A very challenging yet scenically rewarding run along the famous old route called ‘The Ridgeway’ starting in Lewknor and finishing at the iconic Avebury Stone Circle. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Updates of my training, if you are interested, will be linked to this page.
