Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor my brother and myself online.

With the support of our family we are raising funds for the pilgrims hospice by walking up and down what has become known as "The Three Peaks". We are undertaking this task in memory of our much and sadly missed Mum Betty Patching who passed away on the 13th August 2007 from cancer.

Our journey begins with the drive to scotland on saturday 17th may 2008 where we will pitch our tents and rest ready for Ben Nevis on sunday. Ben Nevis is the biggest of the three mountains at 1344m to the peak and should take us about six hours up and down. Once completed a five hour drive will take us to Cumbria and Scafell Pike which is the second of the mountains. Scafell Pike is the smallest of the three at 978m to the peak but is considered the most technical due to the amount of rocks towards the top , this should take us around five and a half hours with another five hour drive to Snowdonia Wales just in time to pitch, eat and rest ready for Snowdon the next day. The third and final day should be the easiest reaching a steady 1085m to the peak with good terrain taking approx five hours (although by now the legs will be telling us different!).

The Pilgrims Hopices have three hospices, one in Canterbury, Ashford and Margate with a total of 56 in-patient beds. Each Hospice has an in-patient ward, a day ward and a team of community nurse specialists who care for over 500 patients in their homes. All services provided by the Pilgrims are completely free to patients, family and carers. To be able to provide this very valuable service £7 million each year has to be raised with a majority of this money coming from the local community. Due to the support of volunteers 83 pence of every pound goes directly to patient care. Care is provided for patients with life limiting illnesses such as cancer, heart failure, respiratory conditions and neurological diseases such as motorneurone and parkinsons disease.

Only a few days away from starting our walk and we would like to thank everybody in advance for their generosity and support they have given for such a worth while cause which will make a big difference to those who need it. We would like to thank Gemma at the Ashford branch of Enterprise Rent-a-car (Goddington Road, Ashford, Kent. 01233 722000) for her efforts in securing a welcomed discount on a car for us to complete our journey.

A big thank you also goes to Chipy for his support in the build up for this task.

Almost got all the money in now and a big thank you to everyone who kindly and generously donated (28/06/09)

I have just had a final count up (although still a few quid to track down lol) and the lastest sum raised is £3425.26 including gift aid which is a fantastic effort by everyone - once again a big thank you for all your support.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Pilgrims Hospices In East Kent will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us!

Many thanks for your support.
