Story

Thank you for visiting our just giving page for the SANDS Snowdon midnight hike on 20th May 2023!

Katherine & Dan were full of hope and excitement, like any new parents, for the arrival of such a precious, loved and desperately wanted little baby.

Katherine had no complications during her pregnancy, her baby was healthy and growing the way he should.

Katherine’s waters broke prematurely on the 8th March 2022.

Later that day, Little baby Otis, was born by emergency C-section on Tuesday 8th March 2022 at 11.38pm - at 33 weeks gestation.
Due to complications during delivery, Otis was transferred to a hospital in Birmingham for specialist care.

Over the next few hours, despite the high level of care he received at hospital, Otis’ condition deteriorated significantly, tragically, Katherine and Dan had to say goodbye to their precious little boy on Wednesday 9th March at 7:30pm.

Their world had completely shattered, and at that moment time stood still.

In the months after Otis passing away, Katherine’s mental health deteriorated.

Sadly, the loss of Otis was too much for Kath to bare. Kath was so desperate to be with Otis, despite the love and support of her fiancée Dan, her little dog Blu, her family and all of her friends, she lost her battle with her mental health on October the 9th 2022 and was finally reunited with her precious little boy Otis.

Kath and Dan were introduced to the Sands charity and the amazing work that they do shortly after Otis passed away. They were able to spend precious time with him, create keepsakes and were given a memory box to keep everything safe.

Sands offered support over the phone, through supports groups and online forums.

Currently in the UK, 13 families a day suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby before, during or shortly after birth. This must change.

The money we raise in memory of Otis & Katherine will help to fund important research, additional training for midwives, vital medical equipment and help to support bereaved parents and families.

Who’s taking part in the SANDS Snowdon Hike?

Dan Berry, Kaths fiancée and Otis’ daddy
Angela Brace, Kaths mum and Otis’ grandma
Daniel Brace, Kaths brother and Otis’ uncle
Rosie James, Kaths sister in law and Otis’ aunty

Weather dependent -
Kaths dog Blu 💙

Thank you to everyone who has donated in Kath & Otis’ memory, to be able to give something back and help make a change means more to us than we could explain. 💛🌻
