Story
We are wild swimming the entire 26 km of the Afon Glaslyn from source to sea.
Laura, Meg & Bella are the SAS representatives for Snowdonia. Laura will be swimming with Dani Hicks and Ruth Bulleyment. As we pass through each village Meg and Bella will be holding river and beach cleans with the local communities.
We will start the epic journey at Llyn Glaslyn on the flanks of Snowdon under the shadow of Crib Goch down to the sea in Porthmadog. This will be a challenging 2 day adventure, sleeping under the stars and swimming the equivalent of 1040 standard pool lengths!
We are swimming to highlight water pollution and micro plastics testing the water quality at various points as we descend the 2000ft to sea level. This is part of the SAS Summit to Sea campaign and also in conjunction with community partners The Outdoor Swimming Society who work tirelessly to improve bathing water from rivers to the sea. Dr Christian Dunn from Bangor University will be screening our water samples for micro plastics.
As SAS reps we carry out beach cleans all over Snowdonia. In the last 4 beach cleans we collected 735 kg with our tireless volunteers. If we could raise £1 for every kilo that would be over £700!
In order to train for this event we have given up our Saturday night glass of wine and we are training to get our fitness level up as one of the team is doing this swim as part of recovery for a debilitating illness. We are asking YOU to give up one thing over the next 6 weeks and instead donate the money to this worthy cause. Let us know in the comment section what it is you have sacrificed!!
We will be keeping you informed of our progress on our pages on facebook and instagram under @snowdoniabeachclean . We are also making a film short about the journey so watch this space..
