Story
Today already marks 8 months since my father left us. In
memory of my dad, I have decided to stand up to one of the most distressing long-term diseases and “Walk for Parkinson’s” in attempt to raise funds by the end of April, a month that also marks PD awareness.
Did you know that an estimated 7 to 10 million people worldwide have Parkinson’s disease (PD) and that every hour someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s in Britain? Many celebrities worldwide were diagnosed with PD such as Michael J Fox (renowned for his PD research foundation), Sonia Rykiel and Muhammad Ali to name a few. PD is the second most common age-related neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s and unfortunately no cure has been found yet - only medications can help control the symptoms. Over the long term as the disorder progresses, it can leave the patients completely debilitated.
Sadly, my dad was diagnosed with PD 20 years ago and it completely changed our lives. Thankfully his strength and dedication to not let it control his life meant that he still found a way to stay active and lead the life that he wanted. YES my dad was a real fighter…
It would mean a lot to have your support in reaching my target. Let’s all join in and help find a cure for this awful illness… Lots of love x
