In memory of Chloe Mansfield
We help the hospital offer a better future to seriously ill children across the UK

Story

Last November, and 2 days after my 3rd birthday, my baby sister Chloe passed away. She was 9 months old and had been at Great Ormond Street Hospital for 6 months. Chloe had spent most of her time in the intensive care unit of GOSH, as well as the respiratory ward.

Before Chloe fell ill, we had a great time at home together. I always helped mummy and daddy to bathe her, and I loved carrying her, playing with her and singing to her. When Chloe was at GOSH, I would spend the entire weekend at the hospital, every weekend. That was our family time together, and it was a special time.

Chloe has now gone into the sky and I miss her very much. I say a goodnight poem to her every night, and every month, mummy, daddy and I (and now my baby brother Harry) go to the hospital to release balloons into the sky for little Chloe.

We have set up a fund called the Chloe Mansfield Fund to help other sick children at the hospital. Chloe had been given so much love at GOSH and as a family, we would like to give something back as well as keep Chloe's memory alive. Every penny raised by the fund will go directly towards helping the sick children at GOSH. We are currently raising money to pay for a playroom in the new respiratory ward being built at GOSH for 2017. Chloe never got to visit the current playroom, but I spent quite a lot of time there. The room was small and the toys were very old. We would like to build something much better for other children. We have raised over £110,000 so far, and need to raise £200,000 in total.

It is for this reason that I would like to ask my friends and family to donate money towards my baby sister's fund for my 4th birthday, instead of giving me a present. I have enough toys already, and there are other children who are very ill, who need a present much more than I do. Mummy and daddy have said they will match the total of whatever I manage to raise.

Thank you very much for your generosity. It means a lot to me and my family, and I know Chloe will be proud of me for doing this.

Love Sophie x
