Story
At the end of Dyslexia Awareness week, on 7th October, I will be running the Clarendon Half Marathon to raise money for Helen Arkelll Dyslexia Charity . About 1 in 10 people have dyslexia and it's usually known for causing difficulties with reading and writing but also impacts mental processing speed and memory. It is not an intellectual weakness, just a different way of learning - but sadly one that education is still not properly geared up to support and which society often judges negatively which can lead to crushing blows to self esteem and self confidence. I'd like to be one of the people in this world that starts to change that. People with dyslexia are incredibly creative and have a very unique way of seeing and reasoning about the world which means they can, and do, make the most amazing engineers, graphic designers, authors, entrepreneurs, actors, architects, artists and, and, and the list goes on. They push boundaries, see opportunities and connections others miss.
The Clarendon half is 13 miles off road, through woods, fields and over many hills. I've considered doing it before, but never had the guts until now. The Helen Arkell charity really helped me, and through my sweat, sore muscles and grit, I hope, with your generosity, to be able to help them do even more great work.
