Story
I am running a half marathon on 5th September to raise money for Southampton Eye unit and Southampton Sight. I have been a consultant at Southampton Eye Unit for 12 years and am passionate about working to support patients with sight loss. I am also Patron of Southampton Sight, a local charity who provide information and advice to people with sight loss, promoting independence and life skills. They also work closely with the eye unit and provide training to medical students and staff to support people with sight loss.
I really started to run in the last couple of years and after a friend asked me to help her train for the London marathon I decided I should also do something. So, not quite enough time and fitness to run a full marathon I am excited to be runnning the half marathon and to be joined by a group of colleagues. Our aim is to raise money for the eye unit, particularly to fund new equipment for testing vision in children.
I will be splitting the money I raise between the eye unit and Southampton Sight to help fund the work they do in training our staff and providing support to our patients.
