Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I managed the marathon in 4 hours 38 minutes.

2012 is going to be a big year for London and indeed the UK, not only for the Olympics but other events such as this, The London Marathon.

At a long 26.2 miles around London and the Thames over a largely flat course, it still entails to be a backbreaking run for me and thousands of other people.  Regardless of this I'm full of excitement with the challenge and look forward to raising money for charity.

I've always been keen to support charities and do hold several events each year in aid of raising money for various charities.  Next year I want to do something different so I decided to give myself the challenge of running the London Marathon (something which I've always wanted to do, even from a young age....and now’s my chance).

Whenever I support a charity I don't just pick one from a hat.  I prefer to pick one which I, myself have had contact with or close relations with, or someone close to me has.  For the London Marathon I have decided to dedicate myself to raising money for HEARING DOGS FOR DEAF PEOPLE.  Here’s why:  I didn’t know much if anything of this charity up until February 2011 when I was at a science fiction convention dedicated to a very talented lady, Amanda Tapping.  Between the events company GABIT and Amanda, they put on this convention in order for her to meet her fans (and vice versa) but also as an opportunity to raise money in their name. One of the charities they were supporting was Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, they were there in person to enlighten and give awareness to what the charity does for people.  I gave what I could and participated in events during the weekend on which this convention ran.  Afterwards I was so moved by how well we had supported Hearing Dog for Deaf people and Sanctuary for Kids (the other supported charity) that weekend I still wanted to do more for them.  This led me to where I am now.

If you could help support me and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People with however much you can afford to donate I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you ever so much…I feel so privileged to be running for such an amazing charity with all your support behind me.

Thank you

Simon

About the charity
