The idea
On my last business trip to the UK one of my colleagues told me about the London nightrider event: a 100 km bicylce tour through London at night. It is not only a sports event and a sightseeing trip but also a charity fundraising. Instead of paying a large admission fee every participant pledges to raise money for a charity of his choice. I liked that idea and decided to participate.
The charity
Why did I chose to support arthritis research? I like to move. I do yoga go climbing, hiking, biking, swimming and running. The fun of feeling my body and exploring limits means a lot to me. People who suffer from arthritis cannot enjoy that any more. Movement means pain for them. They gradually loose that part of their life and a lot of joy with it. It is a cruel disease. And it is frequent. And it destroys lifes.
If you want to know more about the disease the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthritis is a good starting point. Look at the fotos!
