Story
Anyone who knows me, will know I am not a fan of running, nor a fan of anything that doesn't involve the sofa. Yet somehow I have managed to convince myself and my dad that its a great idea for us to run the London Marathon as a tag team. (I am very lucky to have my dad help push, support, drag and bribe me with a vegan breakfast to run every morning!)
The challenge: together we will be running the length of our lane (0.1 miles) 22 times a day for 6 days - starting on Sunday 26th April and finishing on Friday 1st May. This means on the 6th day together we would of accomplished the London Marathon!!
The reason: we are doing this is to help support Clean Break!
Clean Break is a women's charity that uses theatre to help support women and for them to reach their full potential. Clean Break works with women at risk and with lived experience of the criminal justice system.
They use theatre and tailored support to build women’s resilience, skills and creativity. Using these strong and incredible women's stories Clean Break puts their story on stage to help spark change and influence throughout society.
The Statistics: Clean Break is vital work and really does help change peoples lives!
- Around 12,000 women are imprisoned each year
- Over half the women in prison report having suffered domestic violence with 53% of women reporting having experiences emotional, physical or sexual abuse as a child
- The women Clean Break engaged with in 2019 89% said they were more confident and 89% were more hopefully about the future.
- Independent research estimates that just 5% of women completing Clean Break course reoffend compared with the national average of 46%
[Clean Break] has changed my life; there’s no two ways about that. It has given my life direction, purpose, and reason. Clean Break Member
