Story
I have been invited by Vado to be a part of a team of 50 cyclists which aim to raise £55,000 to support the work of the African Children’s Fund and their Kenyan Schools Program. To do this, Vado are organizing a challenging charity bike ride of around 250 miles over three days from Calais to Reims.
Your donations will go towards helping six schools which are
located just outside Thika, a town about 60km outside of Nairobi in Kenya. The town itself is bustling and there is clearly opportunity for people if they have a decent start in life. However, with many of the parents working all hours on the farms in the countryside they often need the children at home, regardless of age, to help picking coffee beans or tending the land. Most families only have the land to survive and have the most basic of provisions – a hut to shelter in and a scarce amount of food. The schools themselves and the
teachers are funded by the government, but no meals are provided and often clothes are donated, and books are handed down.
This is the estimate on how Vado are looking to split the money raised:
Porridge for the year for each school £9,000
Sanitation towels for the year for each school and bins £1,000
Bore holes for 5 schools £12,500
Male and female toilet blocks for each school £25,000
Sports equipment for each school £4,000
Contingency £3,500

Any donations you give will be very much appreciated.
