Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2018 for Great Ormond Street Hospital on the Sunday 14th October 2018.
I don't know the reason why I chose GOSH, the only thing I do remember is that I read an article in the newspaper back in late 2015 about the actress Barbara Windsor and how GOSH has a very special place in her heart.
She remembered just after the war how she was regularly complaining about aches in her knees and she said to her mum how it felt like "toothaches in her legs". The doctors could not find the problem so they sent her off to GOSH to fix her.
Reading about Barbara Windsor's time it was very different to the modern GOSH. Children still fear going to the hospital now not just back then and I would imagine the place was less inviting being after the war. The staff at GOSH certainly make the place! They help give the children hope.
The end result was that she had rheumatism in the legs. The nurse gave her medicine with a dollop of jam to make it taste better. I can't imagine the medicine back then would have tasted nice. Barbara mentions that she will always hold GOSH as a special place in her heart because of how special the nurse made her feel when she was not feeling well.
The money raised will help GOSH purchase and update equipment, they will help support patient and family, it will help them with pioneering research and like any building help with the refurbishment and maintenance.
