Over two days this September I’ll be riding from London to Amsterdam in aid of Barnardos. 

Through my work at Barwells Solicitors I’ve been lucky enough to see and learn about some of the great things that Barnardos do. 

Whilst I love my job, having a ‘desk job’ means my greatest daily physical challenge is having to walk up two flights of stairs to the accounts department. It’s time to get off my comfy chair and give myself a physical challenge. The last time I rode a bike I couldn’t even grow a beard; many years later I have one and it’s going grey. 

So, I can starve off my declining health as I get closer to 40 and raise money for a fantastic charity and make a difference to vulnerable children at the same time. 

Oh, there’s one more motivation. Paul Beard, one of Barnardos’ fundraising managers said to me, ‘I bet you won’t do one of our challenges’. Fragile male ego alone meant his reverse psychology was bound to work. 

I’ll be doing a couple of warm up static bike rides at our Barwells offices in Seaford, Eastbourne and Hailsham over the coming months to promote the ride and the free will scheme that Barwells run for  people over 55 years old in partnership with Barnardos.
