Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Please, please, please take a couple of minutes to read about what we are doing and donate what you can. And while you are reading about the charity just have in the back of your mind that we will be cycling about 1000 miles on the ride itself and countless hundreds of training miles beforehand. Well no one said it was going to be easy! So if nothing else please sponsor my poor aching legs and and saddle-sore backside, it'll make all the difference when I start to wonder what on earth I'm doing.
A couple of years ago a friend of Andy's set about an amazing quest to aid African children who have no access to education. Following a stint teaching in Zambia the Shine charity was created in January 2007 in close collaboration with the local community. The charity currently funds 60 children through their education in the township of Kalikiliki in the suburbs of the Zambian capital Lusaka.
Shine is now in the process of building it's first school which will provide education for 200 pupils - but we need money to fund this project, both in the initial building of the school and the subsequent running costs. This project will have a massive impact on the local community.
For more information please visit the charity's web site : www.shinecharity.org
We have a team of five riders riding from Land's End to John O'Groats starting on September 14th 2008, and we are hoping that between us we can raise in excess of £15,000 which would pay for half of the cost of building the school. The provision of the school will have a massive impact on the community for a whole generation and beyond and will leave a lasting legacy.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Shine will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Please sponsor me now.
Thank you for your support.
