Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When Harriet had a routine 20 week scan for Herbie, we were given frightening news about one of his kidneys. Initially we were told it may be dysplastic and therefore he may only have one fully functioning kidney. From then on, we were monitored throughout pregnancy at Lister Hospital and UCH with the help of Great Ormond Street pediatricians. After Herbie was born, he was put on antibiotics from that day which would then carry on everyday until he was about 2.5 years old. This was to prevent any infections as the kidneys and bladder are so closely linked that they were worried about further kidney damage to an already ‘dodgy’ kidney.

At 4 days old he had his first ultrasound and had numerous tests at GOSH to assess the level of kidney function, if any. It came to light that he has a urethrocele in his bladder which is a sac like pouch at the opening of his bladder. This as well as his kidney have been monitored over Herbie's 4 years with regular ultrasounds and bladder function tests. We are pleased to say at the end of last year he was discharged from GOSH.

The care and comfort Great Ormond Street Hospital provided for Herbie and us was valuable and it was a real eye opener to see what patients, families and staff battle with every day.

I want to give something back at the same time as appreciating my own health and fitness. Herbie loves his biking so he is really excited to see Daddy at the Eiffel Tower finish line! I aim to raise £1600 before end of April.

Thank you.
