London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 · 7 April 2024 ·

The #KidneyWarriors are taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024. Every mile will be helping raise awareness and vital funds for kidney patients to make sure no-one faces kidney disease alone.

Story

Most of you will know this story: in August of 2022 I began the process of getting tested to donate a kidney to my brother Craig after he was placed on peritoneal dialysis and officially added to the transplant register.

Over a period of months I had a whole battery of tests on my blood and urine, x-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, was poked and prodded and assessed for compatibility.

All went exceptionally well and we were scheduled for the donation surgery on the 27th June 2023 - despite my part of the surgery taking nearly 5 hours longer than the 2 hour estimate, the transplant has been a resounding success!

We are lucky in that Craig and I have a loving family and partners as well as close-knit friendship groups for support, but not everyone who faces CKD does - that’s why I want to run this half marathon, so that I can help raise funds and awareness for the brilliant work that Kidney Care UK do in supporting people living with Chronic Kidney Disease.

Lots of you will know that I like the occasional extreme endurance event - but I am stepping into new territory and re-learning what my body can do now that I have been irreversibly altered internally. The best way to get updates on my training is via Instagram at @downakidney or to find me on Strava (Stuart Morrison).

Thank you in advance for your donations, they are going to be put to extraordinarily good use and help some very vulnerable people deal with a debilitating set of diseases and disorders.
