Story

The kids at St. Wilfrid's Primary school, Northenden, have been hit by a triple-whammy: not only do they currently have no school library; there is no Local Authority schools-library service or provision in their catchment area; AND their local library in Northenden is only open for really short hours which largely fall within school hours Mon-Fri with no weekend opening which precludes this as an option for most pupils -especially those with working parents.  The aim of this project is to have a fully stocked and operational library ready to formally open to pupils at the start of the new school year in September 2016. The school and their newly-joined Academy Trust are extremely excited by the prospect of the new library and are proactively supporting the project with volunteer librarians and parents ready and raring to go!

A school library plays a proven and vital part in raising pupils' literacy skills. In turn, there is also tonnes of research which shows that literacy skills play an important part in breaking socio-economic barriers in terms of a child's ongoing engagement and success at school and social-inclusion levels; as well as their future employability and earning potential.

St Wilfrid's simply doesn't have the cash to stock a library themselves, so please donate what you can to help me and the Amoria Bond Charitable Trust raise £3000 to help fund the provision of books and other resources needed to enable St. Wilfrid's to open their own school library - in so doing we'll be giving 300+ pupils a chance to access and enjoy books!

Manchester-born company Amoria Bond has already funded the purchase of 500 books for the new library, as well as pledging £500 via their Charitable Trust, but we need at least 2500 more books to make the library viable and attractive.

We are also taking donations of any unwanted books people may have at home that children may have outgrown - they must be in good condition / decent quality as we want the library to be a quality reading resource for the pupils. Fiction and non-fiction are welcome, and ages of pupils range from 4 to 11 years. If you have any books you would like to donate please email me at natasha.crump@amoriabond.com to arrange logistics for getting the books to me for the school!
