London Landmarks Half Marathon 2023 · 2 April 2023 ·

Our wonderful runners are taking on the 2023 London Landmarks Half Marathon to fundraise for Alcohol Change UK. ***We have two runners attempting a 3-legged Guinness World Record***

Story

I started running in 2017, the year I hit 60. I'll never be fast or be able to run long distances without walk breaks, but I have found so much joy in running.

I truly believe that my new found passion for running was the spur I needed to finally sever the ties with my unhealthy relationship with alcohol, which I'd been trying to do for longer than I want to think about.

I've been alcohol free for over 4 years now, and the difference it's made to my life has been quite dramatic.

At 65, I'm feeling fitter and happier than I have in years, and have a zest for life and interest in more than I'd have ever thought possible.

Because of this link, I decided to take on my first (and possibly last) half marathon to raise funds for Alcohol Change UK. You can read about the great work that they do below.

I need to raise at least £350 to be part of their team, and have pledged to make up any shortfall.

Any amount you can spare, in this most financially trying of times, will be so very much appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

Love Sue xx

About Alcohol Change UK

In the UK one person every hour dies as a result of alcohol. Alcohol harm mental health problems, liver disease, one of seven forms of cancer, economic difficulties, and so much more can affect any one of us, from any walk of life. The harm doesn't end with the individual; each of us who drinks too much is part of a family and a community who feel the effects too, whether through frequent use of emergency services, drink driving, violence or neglect. We are Alcohol Change UK. We work for a society that is free from the harm caused by alcohol. We are not anti-alcohol; we are for alcohol change. We are for a future in which people drink as a conscious choice, not a default; where the issues which lead to alcohol problems like poverty, mental health issues, homelessness are addressed; where those of us who drink too much, and our loved ones, have access to high-quality support whenever we need it, without shame or stigma.
