Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.Last year with your help I raised £1600 which went directly to providing Breast Cancer patients with cool caps so that every breast cancer hospital in the UK had that option. Walk the Walk targets areas to make a direct difference to those going through the fight with breast cancer. I've set a smaller target to start with for this year, but with your help and support who know's what we can do. So in my words from last year...From the bottom of my blisters, one step at a time, on behalf of all of our mothers, daughters, friends and sisters and the special boys in our lives.. thank you xx Jan 31st 2010

1 Feb..So, here we go, 1 year on, and I managed to get into the London this time..with a little help from someone who cares. So here it is 26.2 miles of unchartered territory, with strangers and a lot of hope. For all of you, my friends and family who fought and still fight, you make me so proud to know you..this is for you, one step at a time..in the hope that every penny fights what you fight. Tune in as I doubt I will NOT get away with this without updating this page OFTEN for  fundraising manager, Abi B. !!

1st Feb-ordered my shoes from Nike.com as my other ones are reired after taking care of me in Edinburgh last year. They had completed far more than their 500 miles. I hope that my new ones are as kind as the last ones were and help me along, blister free.Mind you, a year on I'm still struggling to get the Nike+ working every time. I chose special colours for the Moonwalk. Nike said 3-4 weeks to make them and deliver them.Who knows they may ring up and ask if I really picked all those colours, or whether the mouse was playing up.

2nd Feb...wait for it... NIke have made my pretty shoes and dispatched them.in 1 day!!!...and no phone call..oh my goodness will they really be all the colours I ordered? Time will tell. Dug out training plan. Tomorrow I start. Joe McElderry "the Climb" playing on the Ipod, kind of sums it all up.

3rd Feb-email went out re sponsorship, and Abi was informed of her role!!! First donation received, thanks Ali!! Set povisonal target at £300.

4th Feb- I'm touched, overnight I'm already at £158 and rising, thank you so much.Training begins this afternoon, let's hope that the rain stops.

5th Feb-OMG thank you so much nearly at £300, going to put my target up to £500. New blister free M&S socks, old faithful trainers, liberal application of vaseline on feet, Lady Gaga & I went off  to do 5 miles.Clearly wasn't concentrating as somehow I found myself on my 7 mile loop, so did 7 miles in just over 1.25 hrs not bad for 1st outing. Feet were screaming at 5 miles so Lady Gaga got louder. Some fool yelled at me as I was going up a hill at 3 miles, trust me resisting the temptation to do that for the boys, at that time, wasn't too hard!!! :-)

6th Feb- O.K I had forgotten that burning, I can't walk downstairs sensation...ouch....but today it's here. A few more miels will soon sort that out. Note to self, don't go out training just after a predicure, 7 miles and soft feet are not a good match. Hurry up new shoes. Can't walk distances or stairs so today I'm a WCHS.

7th Feb-Downgarded to a WCHR, kind of

8th Feb- Slow walking but no burning!!!  New shoes still not arrived, look Nike it's all very well impressing me by allegedly making my new shoes and dispatching them in 1 day, but nothing has arrived, so am wondering if it's all a ruse. Also training pack hasn't arrived and it's only 13 weeks away!!!

13th Feb-another year older then.

15th Feb-woohoo shoes arrived and they are what I ordered. Quite impressed with Nike.com's customer service and attention to detail. The only trouble is the trainers  look too clean to get dirty. Will have to wear them in around the house or they will burn!! Oh well, stretching today and time to think about getting my bike ready for the cross training. Thank goodness I'm on a double tomorrow, there's and excuse for not training.maybe...even just a little one???OOh no I've just seen that you can post a video on there, why???  A huge THANK YOU to all of you who have sponsored me so far, keep spreading the word!!

17th Feb-nice shoes........but the blisters

18th Feb-....nice shoes, nice blisters and some issues with my shins..oh Nike sort it out

20th Feb- giving old faithfuls a little go, new shoes sulking at home.

28th Feb-Thinking of getting a line put in the Nike advert, pick the colour of yr shoes and matching blisters, now thats cutom!!

March-Some warm weather training, infact so warm I'm training on the treadmill in their lovely gym under the one and only aircon unit that functions on full blast Am wondering what's with the excentric woman next to me from Chicago she is walking backwars on the treadmill...oh well..maybe she likes the view in the mirror better. I will just turn up the volume on the Ipod and drown her out.

March continued..back home. Still struggling with weather, shoes and no time. Many days resorting to "court shoe" training in T5. No problem with walking through the night, or long hours, ...am seriosuly wondering whether 26.2 miles in my work shoes would give me less problems.

New challenge presents itself..great amount of studying and a whole lot of door activity. Am definitely convinced that when you work shifts you can do so much more than 9-5 or in this case 0700-0000. Taken to training at night with study plan and yes the locals are firmly convinced that I am truly mad.

Had another WCHS day at work today, new colleagues thinking I have taken up horseriding, or something like that!!! I haven't but did 13 miles and clearly legs screaming at end of it. Oh well maybe I need to ask them to sponsor me.

Not that I need any more motivation to do this but another friend just been diagnosed. Very sad.

Right training done, back to my proper job...ahha I don't think so. Nature jsut bunged in a wild card "volcanic ash", so lets work around that one and pack the training kit wherever I go.

Lots of 7 mile days, 7 miles is a nice loop...I still can't find my last years 5 mile loop and am now wonderibg whether I am suffering some memory loss...must be the air pressure!!. Anyway spring flowers are an absolute joy. Soon be lilac time.

Building up now 9 mile and 11 miles kicking in more often, don't like the 11 mile circuit I have picked but can now have lengthy conversation on mobile phone whilst walking, to accomodate normal job being morphed into another job involving packing. I must be getting better.

Forget last statement, blisters returned despite vaseline, compeed  and double layer anti blister socks. Not good.

So......anychance of some nice weather, dry weather or even just cut the wind a few knots and crank up the thermostat?

That will be a no then....

Shoes visited anotehr continent and another treadmill and time zone, ooh look at me I'm thoroughly international!! Would you like some juice or water madam?

So cold and wet am thinking of getting the Wii Fit out again and lounge jogging with the woman with the annoying dogs that seem to want to trip me up.

9 miles, 9 miles, 4 miles and 11 miles..........hello blisters

Tip...no insider trading involved...invest in Compeed shares...but buy buy....usegae very definitely on the up.

Thanks to all friends and mad daughter passing me by on Eastcote Road during evening walks am thinking my backside is very recognisable...must be because it's so toned...NOT!!!

Starting to worry a lot..route not available yet...but hey I know how long it is.

Pretty shoes causing shin splints due very effective tortion bar...trouble is I'm not a railway bridge and foot does require some flexing, so reverted to old shoes. No shin splints but a new and spectacular range of blisters. Can't risk new shoes at 4 weeks out, It woudl be madness.

Decided to trial a full and comprehensive range of compeed plasters on feet and 2 pairs of double layer thickness socks ,,that's got to do it surely.

Lovely idea but clearly shoes not big enough now and toe banging on end. Back to drawing board, why didnt I have these probelms last year? And before you all say something "NO NO NO I haven't shrunk anything in washing machine, this time" Note to self must ensure next purchase of washing machine I buy one that doesnt shrink everything and requires no following of those silly care labels.

April-Big huge thank you to those of you sponsoring me.

Went to get some new socks in running shop in Eastcote. Met "mad women" buying new shoes for moonwalk at 3 weeks out. Joined mad women. After all it would be rude not to.Having gone on video surveillance treadmill, need bigger shoes with a neutral thingamyjig so as to avoid shin splints and burning sensation ..so need to run in new pair of shoes. No problem!!

Problem..Well,  more of a challenge as we see it at work..challenge...my roster seems to have disappeared and a new one arrived. New trainers packed, heading for a treadmill on  the East coast.Woo hoo.

Training shedule says I need to do 22 miles today. I've just done a few thousand to get here, my ankles have v def disappeared so am hoping they reappear after a trip to the shopping mall in my very comfy Havannas. Hmm maybe 26.2 miles in them then.

A&F and Yankee Candle Co very definitely helped a lot with ankle problem :-) so am going to give treadmill a go.

22 miles on a treadmill not happening due interesting people with very loud "herumphs" on adjacent treadmills, I could only manage 1 hour due to severe loss of water from tear ducts in laughter. Wil walk plenty in the aisles to support training.

New shoes- solved shin splint issue but not blisters. Oh well can't win them all. 2 weeks to go.

May 1st still no final packs, no route and no bra, well don't worry I have a bra..phew...just not my "playtex" moonwalk bra. Lots of 7, 9 and 11 mile walks and managed to dodge rain showers. Bluebells and lilac out it's gorgeous.

Nike you can shove yr shoes i'm wearing my Asics ones now...sadly not so pretty but hey I can actually walk now and there is no WCHR requirement at work.

Am supposed to be tapering..ha..I think I need to be ramping it up...going to try mind over matter and taper AFTER the event, although it would appear that after the evnt my shoes and I may be heading for a treadmill on the BA network somewhere. Am considering doing the EDI one too now in June, was such a beautiful walk with the sun rising over the Firth of Forth. Am sure by the 16th of May I will have lost that desire and will be looking for my hamstrings somewhere.

9 miles, 7 mile in new shoes....getting better just need to multiply it by 4...yes 4........

10th May-pa1cks arrived, might have to outsource bra decoration  at this late stage. Am thinking of using battery operated minature Xmas lights ...

11th May- oh who's the joker if u think I'm walking 26.2 miles in a Wondabra..think again...I would get arrested for indecent exposure.

Thanks for the goodluck phonecalls it means a lot.

12th May-Sad news and someone else to be thinking of on my walk..this one's going to be for you sweetie. You fight ...I will walk and you will be with me on my shoulder all the way. S,J,A,M,L & P, ladies,  you know who you are.

Essential shopping trip..list to include more vaseline, more Compeed, jelly babies, M&S bite size flapjacks... and a younger fitter pair of legs.

14th May-Shopping done, well almost,  couldn't find a younger fitter pair of legs available. Didn't realise you can get so many different Compeed medium sized plasters. Am now fully stocked with heel, toe, ankle and underfoot blister plasters. Share price must have gone up now surely...

Night before the Night- 4miles a steady pace and plenty of abuse along the way ..thanks girls and boys it means a lot!! ;-)  Just checked weather forecast and not expecting any rain. Now for carbo loading. Any excuse!

Well...it stayed dry albeit cold. Completed the walk despite a dodgy 2 minutes at 18 miles where I was saved by a man on a bike offering food !!. Finished in Hyde park to blazing early morning sunshine. Thank you all for your amazing support. Not sure there will be a next time but I shall be happy to support you when you do it!!!!
