Support Kidney Wales in their flagship fundraising event helping support families and changing the lives of kidney patients in Wales.

Story

Summer was born a healthy child but  from 10 months old
we knew something wasn't right then summer got  diagnosed at 15 months old
with a wilms  tumour. This had a huge impact on our lives.Summer received 6 months of
chemotherapy which unfortunately made little Impact resulting in summer having
the left kidney removed. Summer then went into remission but sadly 6 months later
another tumour had grown on the right kidney this resulting in summer needing
intense chemotherapy which also had no impact the tumour just kept growing and
eventually just 10 months apart summer lost her right kidney. This meant that
summer was to go on to dialysis which she had 4 times a week to begin with at
hospital. The dialysis was very difficult for summer as she was 2 and half
years old. We were able to do home dialysis which resulted in summer being on a
machine for 12 hours 7 nights a week for 2 and half years. It was a very
difficult time as summer lost her appetite which resulted in summer having to
be tube fed. Summer then received a kidney transplant in April 2012 but
unfortunately it started to fail in 2014.

Summer has been back on dialysis since February 2015 and
is now having to spend 11 hours a night on dialysis at home. Summer has a
restriction of 350 mls to drink in 24 hours.  Summer
also suffers a lot of pain in her legs and stomach whilst on dialysis.   Summer is
now waiting for a 2nd transplant and we pray every night that we will receive
the call. Summer and I have been involved with kidney wales since
summer was 2 and half years old.

Kidney wales has helped us so much over the years they have
given great support when we have needed it. Kidney Wales also
provides ipads dvd players and lots more to the Children's Kidney Centre which makes life so much more bearable for the patients.  Summer loves taking part in the 2K every year, her way of saying thank you to Kidney Wales for their support throughout her journey.
