Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are walking a mile along the Tyne in Newcastle dressed up as Superheros and Villains to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK. A mile may not seem like very far but for boys with Duchenne it is harder than running a marathon.
James was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy over 3 years ago at the age of 6. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a serious, incurable, progressive muscle wasting disease. Currently there is no treatment. Only about 100 boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy are born in the United Kingdom each year. Over the next few years James's muscles will slowly deteriorate, starting with the muscles in his legs and then moving to his arms, respiratory muscles and heart. He is already finding it difficult to keep up with his peers and uses a wheelchair for long distances. He does however always have a smile on his face and we are very proud of how brave he is. Scientists are confident that a treatment will be found for Duchenne over the next 10 years so we are raising money for Muscular Dystrophy UK's Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund where the money is targeted towards the search for a treatment and ultimately a cure.
Please help us raise as much money as we can for James and all the other boys with Duchenne, any little that you can donate will help and we really appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page - please sponsor us if you can and share our page far and wide.
