We support people with disabilities to lead more independent lives

Story

Hello! I can't believe I am going to be doing this incredibly hard challenge in April 2017! I have decided to run for a local charity to support this amazingly wonderful cause.

I have chosen them as I'd like to make everyone aware of what they do. I love innovation and the ways in which the dogs enable support and assistance for adults and children with a range of disabilities to enhance their lives is so clever and life changing.

As a Director of Cameo Consultancy (Recruitment) Limited we proudly sponsor Dogs for Good and this year we sponsored Horace a beautiful black lab, we hear he is responding well with his training which is to develop him in the fundamental skills required for his very important future role!

Costs and Key Facts
Dogs for Good must raise £12,000 to fund each dog to fully-trained Assistance or Community Dog and a further £8,000 to cover the costs of its working life from qualification to retirement.
It costs nearly £3 million pounds a year to run Dogs for Good and the vital services it provides.
The charity receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations, fundraising and volunteers to continue its pioneering work: 77p from every £1 raised or donated goes directly to support its work.
With over 2000 enquiries each year there are many more people the charity could help.

It’s estimated that more than 100,000 people in the UK could benefit from an Assistance Dog

The dogs help adults and children in some of the following ways:

•    Opening and closing doors
•    Helping with dressing and undressing
•    Retrieving items such as mobile telephones or dropped articles
•    Loading and emptying the washing machine
•    Pressing a pedestrian crossing button
•    Reaching up to shop-counters with items such as a wallet
•    Helping with physiotherapy routines
The dog also offers unconditional love, becoming a friend who is always there for them, and a positive focus for the whole family.

I will be training hard until the day to ensure I am as ready as possible, by running (of course) strength and core training, swimming , eating well most of the time and trying not to drink wine!  I will be training with the help and support of my wonderful husband, Nigel (who is sensible and is not running the VLM), and my gorgeous friends Mike and Nikki who just happen to be my brother and sister-in-law, they too are running the VLM 2017 (Mike has done it before!) Nikki and I are going for it together!  All three are great running partners and training buddies, I am sure we will support and help each other along the way as always.

Through Just Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Just Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

Or text 70070 with my code JLIE 97 and the amount you'd like to donate.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
