In the last two weeks of January both my mum, Susan and my brother, Barry, passed away from Covid-19 at Royal Derby Hospital.

My dad, Michael and my other brother, David, were also ill with Covid-19. Michael is now out of the hospital and is in respite care as things are being sorted. David is much better and is being looked after at a care home.

As per family wishes both Susan and Barry will be cremated directly, and as there will be no service there will be no flowers. I intend to find a natural burial ground for their final resting place. Should you wish to make a donation in lieu to either this page or the linked page for the Nightingale Macmillan Unit at the Royal Derby Hospital then the family and the charities will be hugely grateful.

Barry had been volunteering at the Treetops Hospice charity shop in his home village of Draycott for a number of years. Our mum was very proud that he had been brave enough to take this big step and was so happy that he had become such a well loved member of the team. I know Barry loved working there and made many friends, both colleagues and customers. I also know that not being able to spend time there was one of the many things that made the last year so difficult for him.

Both Susan and Barry were kind and gentle with a cheeky sense of humour and will be much missed by friends and relatives. The wonderful messages I've read from Barry's many friends in the village are testament to that.

Your donations will help will help Treetops Hospice Care provide nursing care and emotional support for anyone affected by a life-limiting illness or bereavement in Derby, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Treetops supports people with illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis. It also supports their carers and families. All services are provided free of charge. Treetops Hospice Care is a registered charity, which costs £4.3 million each year to run.
