5000 Miles on Bicycles

We are Suzanne, Susanna, Alan, Christine, Richard (& Puppet Pig*) and this June will be cycling 1000 miles, from Land's End to John o' Groats, in memory of Suzanne's husband, Simon.
*In Simon's absence, his good friend Puppet Pig will be accompanying to raise morale and help us bring home the bacon...
Simon died in June 2021 from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a rare neurological disease. It destroys every physical function: walking, talking, eating... everything that is but the mind, left fully aware to bear each loss.
We are fundraising for two organisations: Macmillan Palliative Care in Midhurst, and Dignity in Dying.
Macmillan's care is both emotional and practical. They helped Simon face the reality of his diagnosis, and enabled him to remain at home, cared for by those who loved him. A few weeks before he died, communication reduced to blinks, he said he didn't want to die in pain. I checked - even if that means shortening your conscious life? Yes, he blinked.
Macmillan did all the law allows but it wasn't enough. Simon remained conscious to the end, in pain and distress.
That's why we're also cycling for Dignity in Dying and their important campaigning to permit assisted dying for terminally ill, mentally competent adults.
