The Coronavirus pandemic has placed many countries around the world into lockdown, with health services struggling and victim numbers increasing daily. But what can we do? The Islamic answer is a simple, but a profound one. The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity’. [Tirmidhi]
In this time of great struggle, there are many who are left vulnerable in their homes without an income or food. Many families have lost dear loved ones, many have been struck off work, and many are in isolation - making food difficult to obtain. Supermarket shelves are empty and greed has overtaken many of us, but I believe many of us are selfless.
Right now, we need charity more than ever to avert these trials and tribulations. By acts of selfless giving and sharing, we believe that Allah will show His mercy and remove the calamities, illness and hardships we're all facing today.
The Prophet (saw) said, 'Whoever brings ease to one in difficulty, Allah will make it easy for him in this life and the hereafter. [Muslim]
