Story
My husband died of leukaemia; I am a survivor of breast cancer. There are many other cancer stories amongst my family and friends. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in 2019, I was less than pleased! However, one operation, six rounds of chemo and fifteen doses of radiotherapy later, I am still here. When my oncologist told me at the end of November that I could start swimming again, I was delighted. I love swimming and knew that it would be an excellent way to build up my stamina and regain my strength.
Now I have decided to combine my love of swimming with my gratitude for all the help out there for people facing cancer by undertaking the Swimathon 2020 challenge. I am going to swim 1.5km on 29 March and hope to raise as much money as I can for Cancer Research UK and for the Marie Curie.
On the 27th - 29th March, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading down to over 600 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners.
Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through funding research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK are the only charity fighting over 200 cancer types but don't receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like you.
Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in people’s homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.
Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
