Story

From a young age I was introduced to horses through occupational therapy and I've never looked back. It's safe to say my life has truly been changed by horses, helping me become stronger physically and mentally, and also giving me experiences and chances to achieve more than I could ever have dreamed of - and this one tops them all!  I intend to dedicate my life to horses as an equine Vet and this 'bucket-list' opportunity is one I am so grateful to be part of.  Lots of training coming up!!  But I can't wait!

Those who know me can vouch that I spend every free minute on a horse and that’s the place that I’m happiest, all the stress from uni and life disappear. Coming from a non-horsey background my introduction into the sport hasn’t been quite as straightforward as others but I’m a true believer everything happens for a reason and I’ve had some incredible opportunities and met some amazing people through the sport over the years and definitely learnt that with horses the more you put in the more you get out. Which is why for this challenge I will be putting my all into getting myself fit and strong enough as well as hopefully becoming the best rider I can be.

When I stepped into a raceyard to do work experience for university I never expected to fall so deeply in love with the sport and the horses and now couldn’t imagine my life without them. These horses are the most incredible athletes who go above and beyond for us and I’m so lucky I get the opportunity to ride and work alongside these amazing animals

Road Safety: Too many horses and riders are being killed or injured on UK roads. Over the past year there have been over 1,000 incident reports on our roads involving horses; 180 have been injured and 46 killed - but we know only one in ten incidents are reported. We are dedicated to improving the safety of UK riders.Horse Welfare: The BHS responds to over 6,000 welfare cases each year, but there are a thousand more in need of help. We work hard to promote the prevention of neglect, cruelty and harm to horses and provide support, advice and education to horse owners to try and remedy problems before they become too serious.Future Generations: Horses have a powerful way of inspiring disengaged young people to reconnect with society. Our Changing Lives through Horses programme aims to improve the lives of disengaged young people and give them the opportunity to develop skills that enable them to return to education and/or employment.
