Taking place in London’s Victoria Park, DeutscheRun is a fundraising marathon with a difference. Share the achievement (and pain!) with colleagues, friends and family or go the whole distance yourself

Story

Team CROCI are running a relay marathon (DeutscheRun on 10th September 2017), and we are raising funds for the two DB Charities of the Year: "Autistica" and "Hope and Homes for Children". Please support these two great causes generously if you can!

Who is running? Francesco, Fabio, Christian and Dirk

What are we doing? DeutscheRun, the team marathon in Victoria Park. The course will be in the northern part of the park (near Cadogan Gate, E9 5EG): www.teammarathon.co.uk

Why are we doing this? Getting in a good run around the traditional "People's Park" of London's East End, and doing so as a team - do we need a reason? But there is more to it - we're raising funds for two great causes: "Autistica" and "Hope and Homes for Children". See below for more on the amazing work they do!

How can you support our cause? Donate generously if you can, come and support us on 10th September if you happen to be in London - and ideally both!
Our initial fundraising target is £2,500 (before any donation match from DB), but remember that every £1 you give can go the extra mile (no pun intended):

  • DB will match every £1 by donating an equal amount to these  charities;
  • if you are a DB employee in the UK, then you should apply for a "donation match" - this way, DB will add another £1 for every £1 of your donation (see below for more on how to do this);
  • finally, if you are a UK tax payer, don't forget to tick the "GiftAid" box when you submit your donation - this will add another 25p to the total.

In total, this will mean that every £1 you donate will translate into up to £3.25 for "Autistica" and "Hope and Homes for Children". Alternatively, if you are a DB employee in the UK, consider making a one-off payroll donation - in that case, the donation comes out of your gross salary and DB will automatically match your gross contribution, increasing the value of your donation to the two charities even further. Here's the relevant link - and please let us know if you've chosen this route:

Any donation, no matter how big or small, will help make a difference and will go directly to these two charities:

  • Autistica (www.autistica.org.uk) fund scientific research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of autism - a woefully underfunded topic of research, especially if you take the costs of treatment and care into account. The UK, for example, has been spending only around £4m a year on researching autism, a tiny fraction of the estimated £32bn cost of treatment, support and care. Please read Paul and Emilia's story about family life with an autistic child, how Autistica has helped them, and what more autism research would mean to them: https://teammarathon.co.uk/the-event/charity-partners/paul-and-emilias-story
  • Hope and Homes for Children (www.hopeandhomes.org) are on a mission to consign institutional orphanages to history (and to the pages of a Dickens novel) - no child in a modern day and age should grow up in an institution rather than a family. Hope and Homes currently focus on a few countries in Eastern Europe and Africa where they work with families, local communities, and governments. They recently completed their 100th orphanage closure and they're working on many more to come. Please read Steve's story - Hope and Homes rescued him from an orphanage in Rwanda and found him a specialist foster family: https://teammarathon.co.uk/the-event/charity-partners/steves-story

Thanks for your support and we hope to see you on 10th September!

Francesco, Fabio, Christian and Dirk
