Story
As part of their personal development telent graduates and apprentices are undertaking a WellChild Helping hands project (https://www.wellchild.org.uk/what-we-do/helping-hands/), which provides home and garden improvement schemes for children with complex care and health issues.
Our project is for Edward. Edward is 5 years old and has a diagnosis of Trisomy 9P, a rare chromosomal disorder. He has global development delay, cerebral palsy, hyper mobility and is visually impaired. He has no speech, limited communication, no danger awareness and a high pain threshold. Edward also puts everything in his mouth and throws anything he can lift (including furniture). A safe, secure and stimulating garden is really important for Edward to use and would allow him greater independence.
The project will enable the graduates and apprentices to get involved in the local community whilst contributing towards their respective development programmes. In order to provide Edward with the garden he needs, the graduates and apprentices will need to raise £1800 for the materials and then spend 2 days creating the garden.
We will be holding a number of fundraising events across the whole of telent in order to raise the funds needed to help Edward. Look out for more information over the coming weeks with how you can support this worthwhile cause!
