Dear Friends,
Since retiring a little over a year ago, I have been looking for what God has next for me. I believe this has recently been revealed. A few weeks ago my wife, Elaine, and I went to lunch at a friend’s house after church. During the meal, everyone there shared what we were currently doing. One of the men shared about a ministry he was involved in called World Impact Now (WIN Ministries).
Basically, what WIN Ministries does is provide pastors and Christian workers in the developing world with a video-based Bible and community development curriculum. During this man’s testimony, Elaine was kicking me under the table. Her way of saying that she thought this ministry was for me. I agreed. A few short days later, I found myself volunteering for WIN Ministries every week.
I am especially excited to have been invited on a ten-day trip to Africa in early July. We will be going to the Democratic Republic of Congo and the neighboring Republic of Congo. We will carry in equipment (projectors and flash drives containing 125 video courses) to start extension schools in 50 locations. We will be using WIN's "Nation-2-Nation Christian University" curriculum.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the second-poorest country in the world. "In 2018, it was estimated that 73% of the Congolese population, equaling 60 million people, lived on less than $1.90 a day (the international poverty rate). As such, almost 14% — or one out of six people living in extreme poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa — live in DRC" (World Bank, 2021).
Over the last ten years, these extension schools have impacted Africa greatly both spiritually and practically. The curriculum contains Bible and pastoral training, and also courses like farming, health care, and animal care. All of this is done to introduce people to Jesus Christ, grow them in their faith, and add skills to help their communities become strong and healthy. What an incredible picture of what the church of Jesus Christ is called to be like!
This trip is going to cost $6,600. Half of the money raised will cover my tickets and room and board. The other half will cover equipment for the schools and the costs to bring in key leaders from both countries to be trained and given the equipment needed to start the schools.
Would you be interested in helping me? I am praying that friends and family alike will be led to give gifts of $25, $50, or $100 dollars to make this impactful trip possible. Every gift is important. Thanks in advance for anything you can do!
Sincerely Yours, Eternally His
