London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
Yeah I know I said this before but this will be my final hurrah, my final marathon, my Swansong! It’s my 40th birthday year and it’s going to be a celebration on all of the ways!
So again, I am not doing this just for myself. I will be running in the blue & gold of GBSS. You know why I do this but for anyone who doesn’t know, i do it because of Lucas. When he was born he had a life threatening infection called Group B Strep. I had never heard of it and when I researched around it, I discovered it is incredibly common and incredibly easy to test for. But it isn’t routinely screened for, nor is it something pregnant women are told about. We were lucky, we still have our baby. But so many people do not. And I find this unacceptable.
So my mission is two-pronged. Anyone who has ever had a conversation with me, will have heard my passionate campaigning for raising awareness of Group B Strep. You’ll have heard me on the radio too! The first prong of my mission is raising awareness, getting the message out there about this deadly infection and make people aware of it. Secondly, it’s to raise money so that Group B Strep Support can continue the frankly incredible work that they do supporting, educating and campaigning. I cannot thank them enough for the support they have given me in the aftermath of Lucas being born and the wonderful support they gave us when I was pregnant with Jemima. I love them like they are part of my family!
So in true Bob Geldof fashion, GIVE US YA CASH!! Anything you can donate is hugely appreciated by me and by GBSS!
Thank you ✌️
Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. On average in the UK, at least-two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection -one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and-one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities – physical, mental or both.Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
