Story
A year ago today Mummy was diagnosed with
pancreatic cancer. This came as extremely shocking and devastating news, especially as she had done everything possible to not get cancer again after previously suffering from breast cancer. Ollie and I have decided to take on the challenge of running a marathon while Mummy continues her very brave and inspiring fight against Pancreatic Cancer. We are aiming to raise both money and awareness for a charity that has sadly become very close to the Hext's heart.
Ollie will be running the Seville Marathon 2020 on 23rd February and Sophie will be running the London Marathon 2020 on 26th April (the step up to a full certainly won't be easy..!)
Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of any cancer with a 1 year survival rate of just 24%. This needs to change and with your kind donations, Pancreatic Cancer UK are funding valuable research into new treatments and diagnostic techniques to improve the outcome for pancreatic cancer patients. This charity aims to double the UK survival rate for people suffering from the disease to transform and save lives. It also raises awareness of the disease and offers support for patients and their families.
24 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each day in the UK alone and it is the UK's 11th most common cancer. However, it receives only 3% of overall cancer research funding: a total of only £14 million in 2016/17. Therefore, it is often misdiagnosed and found too late after it has already spread.
Until Mummy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer we didn't really know much about it or the associated symptoms, so it is vital to spread awareness so people can catch the disease early. A terrifying 71% of adults cannot name a single symptom of pancreatic cancer unprompted.
We would both be so grateful if you could help us and support Mummy in her fight by donating to this wonderful charity. Losing toe nails, blisters and training in the cold and dark this winter will all be worthwhile if we can raise as much money as possible. Every penny will help us run faster!
Thanks so much xxx

Pancreatic cancer is a tough one but we’re taking it on. It is tough to diagnose, tough to treat, tough to research and tough to survive. For too long this disease has been sidelined. We want to make sure that everyone affected by it gets all the help they need. We are supporting those affected by the disease, investing in ground breaking research, lobbying for greater recognition of pancreatic cancer and being a voice for everyone involved in the fight. Together we are taking on pancreatic cancer.
