Story
Over the past 6 months the thought of quitting crossed the mind of each of the men on at least one occasion. Accepting the failure of walking away each reflected on the purpose behind their goal, the memory and lasting legacy of Baby Aashil Hirani.
Aashil was a brave young boy who passed away in January just four days before his 1st birthday. Having suffered with a rare genetic condition, Aashil remained strong and vibrant. Those who loved him and miss him remember not just his cheeky smile but his strength, courage and determination to fight his condition each day of his short life.
In his memory, The League Of Extra Ordinary Mudders banded together from both Cardiff and London in an effort to raise funds for the Gastroentology Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital, enabling them to continue their pioneering research and treatment in to complex conditions. With various fund raising initiatives and participation in the brutally challenging Tough Mudder Event this past weekend (21/09/13) near Abergavenny we have raised a combined total of £24,827.01. Over 12 miles and 15 intense obstacles designed by Army Special Forces, we have bled, shed tears and against all odds each crossed the finish line in honour of Aashil. Despite the fantastic amount of money already raised, we aspire to continue raising further funds for this cause.
There are those who do and those who don’t. We never know what we will require until a tragedy falls upon our path. Heroism comes in many different shapes and sizes. With thoughts of Aashil fuelling us on, we awoke on 21st September as men and went to bed as Tough Mudders.
