Story

Our Story…  by Lisa

It’s been over a year and half since our dear son Ollie suffered a rare and life threatening condition called Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, the extreme form of Stevens Johnson Syndrome. Whilst Ollie survived the condition it has caused serious damage to his eyes and eyelids leaving him severely visually impaired, sensitive to light and suffering with chronic dry eye syndrome.

Since being referred to the Corneo-Plastic Eye Department at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, the team of Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic surgeons, led by Mr. Hamada have made a huge difference to Ollie’s quality of life and have given us hope for the future. It has been a painstakingly slow process but his eyes are now stable, he has some vision in his right eye and he is more comfortable. The next stage of his specialist treatment involves stem cell and cornea transplant to hopefully restore some vision to Ollie’s left eye.

Queen Victoria Hospital helps people who have experienced damage or disfigurement as a result of disease, trauma, burns, major surgery or a congenital condition. They provide life changing surgery and care, therapy and rehabilitation services to all people and help rebuild lives. This is why I, my sister and a group of our great friends are taking part in the Colour Run to raise money for the Corneo-Plastic Eye Department through the QVH Charitable Fund and hope that you can join us and support the incredible work that they do every day to support families like us.

We are aiming to raise £2000, thank you for your support; it means a lot to us all xxx
