Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Gaming has become a form of art-therapy for me. I've struggled with chronic fatigue, pain and functional symptoms for years and was finally diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) in 2015. My mobility declined to the point where I now use aids such as braces, Smartcrutches, a wheelchair called 'Fray' and a mobility scooter called 'Prydwen'.
My low energy levels also affect my cognitive abilities; I have executive dysfunction and memory issues. EDS affects the connective tissues, the stuff that holds you together and so almost every body part is involved. Just getting the correct diagnosis with such varying symptoms is hard - digestion, reproduction (I'll just say I'm very lucky to still be here after going through labour with undiagnosed EDS. Well, most of me is still here) cardiovascular...
I ended up collecting letters as if I were playing diagnosis Scrabble! CFS, FND, GA, FM, OA, hEDS and POTS. Oh and finding out I'm also autistic along the way.
EDS UK helped me to ask the right questions of my medical team; they lent me an ear when I needed to talk. They provided me with education so I could understand this complex condition and its 'groupie diagnoses' and allied volunteers provided a local support group which helped me process the diagnosis emotionally.
So now I'm essentially a medically retired parent, after years of trying to go out to work normally and too often being physically unable to be reliable. So I found things I could do from home that I also enjoyed. Gaming led to doing fan art commissions and then I began streaming my gameplay on 4th May 2021. It has brought me purpose, community, an outlet for my creativity and fun!
So join me in supporting the Ehlers-Danlos Support UK charity to say thankyou for all their hard work to make the lives of us 'Zebras' easier!
