Ever since the first Monopoly Run was inspired by my mum Gwen six years ago, when she said I ran into London so many times I had almost made it around every stop on the board, I have chosen a different charity to support. 

This year we are running for the Eve Appeal, the UK’s only national charity dedicated to raising awareness and funding research into the gynaecological cancers. Every year over 21,000 women are diagnosed with gynaecological cancer and every day 21 of them will die from these cancers. 

This is a good enough reason to support the Eve Appeal, but this year’s run is held in memory of two very special women.

Two years ago a very dear friend of mine lost his mum Ann to ovarian cancer. This type of cancer is often called the ‘silent killer’ as the symptoms are so easily mistaken for other diseases that the signs are often missed until it’s too late. Sadly this was the case for my friend’s mum. She died in just a few months after being diagnosed. She was only 72 and is still so very sadly missed by her whole family. 

The other woman we are remembering is the wife of one of my running friends Richard Bannister. Ele died from ovarian cancer over 13 years ago, leaving behind Richard and two young children. This disease robbed her of the chance to see her children grow up and left them without their mum. Her family was forced to carry on without her, but she will never be forgotten. 
She was 44.

This year we are running in memory of these two women and every other family that is touched by these terrible diseases. 

The Monopoly Run will take place on Sunday 16th September 2018
