We work with people in divided communities to promote peace and reconciliation

Story

Hi!

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.

I'm fundraising for Peace Players Int. to support an amazing organisation that helps bring together children from communities in conflict through sport.

On the 6th December I'll be volunteering at a Youth Sports Tournament in Belfast to support this.

About PeacePlayers in Belfast:

In 1998, Peace was made in Northern Ireland in the form of the Good Friday Agreement. However, communities remain divided in the form of segregated housing and separate schooling systems. There are currently 99 barriers in Belfast that separate the two major communities. Only 6% of schools are integrated and many children do not have the opportunity to meet other children from the “other side”. This is why the work of PeacePlayers, and this event, is extremely important for bridging divides, developing leaders, and changing perceptions.

PeacePlayers International (PPI) was founded in 2001 on the premise that “children who play together can learn to live together.” In its 12 years of operations, PPI has reached more than 65,000 participants and trained more than 1,100 youth leaders. Through a groundbreaking peacebuilding and leadership development curriculum, PeacePlayers International uses basketball to bring children together and teach them proven tactics for improving their communities.

At PeacePlayers International - Northern Ireland we use sport - in particular the game of basketball - to build bridges between children and young adults who live in divided communities. Our programmes are based on the belief that children who play together can learn to live together.
