Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you might know, Evie’s little sister Martha was born unexpectedly and in a bit of a hurry at home back in January this year. We didn’t even make it to the hospital before Martha made her appearance and in all the rushing around Martha arrived unable to breathe by herself. She spent over a month in the NICU and during this time we were approached by a lovely member of the Derian House hospice team.
Unknown to us, Derian House offers so much more than palliative care and one of the best quotes I’ve heard to describe Derian is that, “unknown to most, it is a place where children go to live, rather than to do the opposite”.
Since returning home from hospital, Derian has provided nothing short of lifeline for not only Martha but our entire family and although their is nothing we could do to come close to repaying them for their kindness, over the summer holidays Evie had a wonderful idea to show Derian House how grateful we are for all their support.
Evie is a self confessed book worm and after reading her new David Walliams book, she was inspired to write her own story to raise money for this wonderful charity, who have provided so much loving care for her baby sister. She has written her book “The Teeny Tiny Plumber” in the style of David Walliams and we couldn’t be prouder of her work and the wonderful sentiment behind it.
We know that money is particularly tight, not only because of the time or year but also due to the circumstances of the last couple of years, but if you have any spare change, you would be making such a massive difference to the lives of lots of wonderful children. Derian Derian House provides respite and end of life care for over 450 children and families all over the North West. In 2021 alone, it costs over £5 million to run the services at Derian, with only 12% of funding coming from the government.
There are so many fantastic experiences that Derian House offers to children and their nearest and dearest, from exploring a fabulous sensory room and having a splash in the hydrotherapy pool to enjoying time outside in the Smile Park. Evie’s story hopefully reflects the fun and escapism that Derian brings to every family that has passed through its doors and Evie would be thrilled if you would help her raise as much money as possible.
