On Friday 24th March, my Dad and I will team up against homelessness and to support of mental health by bedding down for one night at The Old Royal Naval College, in an act of compassion to help more veterans off the street.
Homelessness is an increasing issue within the UK and there is a considerable, yet overlooked link between homelessness and mental health issues. In 2014, within this misunderstood and vulnerable group, 80% reported experiencing mental health issues, with 45% having being diagnosed with a mental health condition.
My father, a veteran and someone who worked his entire career in service of supporting the armed services and veterans, and I will be sleeping rough in support of two causes close to our hearts: veterans and mental health.
Alabarés work with homeless and vulnerable veterans echoes that of The Old Royal Naval College and a shared desire to see homeless ex-Armed Forces personnel supported in their lives outside of the military. Alabaré welcomes veterans from all over the UK and provides supported accommodation, along with a bespoke package of training, education, skills and mental health support, so a veteran can move forward with their lives. Alabaré is the largest provider of Homes for Veterans outside of London. All the funds needed for this programme must be fundraised.
Please help us with any small donation you can and help us support Alabares work with the homeless and supporting veterans mental health.
