Story
I am proud to say I’m blessed to have 10 years clean and sober! October 6, 2010 I was given an opportunity to change my life and move to south Florida with my aunt and uncle. Then I decided I would take all suggestions to better my life. It was the absolute best decision I’ve ever made! I can’t explain what it feels like to be fully trusted in marriage, be healthy, have job security, and loved unconditionally because I’m now doing what I should and need to do for myself and others each and everyday. The majority of people do not have that same opportunity as I thankfully had. Most rely on in patient treatment which is paid mostly through insurance. One of the amazing things that the Herren Project does is scholarship those without insurance through treatment.
This program has impacted me in a way that brings tears to my eyes. The Herren Project put my best friend through treatment on a scholarship. We grew up together and we did everything together, then came drugs. We also still stayed together. Until the day I had left him behind in Massachusetts as well as many others and completely closed the door on that chapter of my life. By the grace of god and the Herren Project he showed up 7 years later in my life and now has 4 years sober under his belt and is right by my side! This program not only gave him an opportunity to become sober, they gave him an opportunity to grow as a person. I can honestly say Thanks to God and The Herren Project, I got my best friend back.
My goal is to not only break that horrific stigma that the general public has on addiction. Not only help others get into treatment and create awareness. But to give others the opportunity and hope that they too can have what we have, a true sober friendship, how it was prior to drugs and alcohol when we were kids. It is possible it truly is and some people just need a little extra help and direction!
