In March 2020, I suffered a TPF, Schatzker V with a 5cm compression of the joint, torn Miniscus and fractured Radius, all of which required a 5 hour operation. Pinned, plates, screws and bone grafts!

Whilst I was still bedridden, my lovely Dad was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. As time has gone on, my parents have become more and more reliant on my siblings and I. His decline has been slow, but noticeable as time has gone by. Remembering such things as passwords, how to open e-mails, how to carry out on-line banking, mundane tasks that we all take for granted is becoming a real struggle (especially when you have lockdowns). Telephone calls sometimes work, but there is nothing more positive for my Dad than seeing his family face to face.

The real downside of of his condition is that anyone who meets him for the first time would not realise that he has this condition as he seems very clear and unconfused in his conversations. However everyday tasks are presenting difficulties which frustrate him as he cannot remember simple tasks and the frustration this brings impacts those around him.

In September 2021, my brother and I decided that we wanted to do something positive to try and raise funds to add additional support and help find a cure for this disease.

This ride is not only the beginning of the end of my injury, but it is the ending of the beginning of this disease.
