Story

Tim Thursfield has been a member of the Woodland Trust for over 25 years and has had a lifelong passion for trees and conservation. He has planted his own wood in Wales and also works as a volunteer in Richmond Park restoring woodland habitats.

Working in Australia as a teenager, he glimpsed Mount Everest on his overland return trip through Nepal, and determined he would revisit the Himalayas.

By embarking on this three week trek , Tim hopes to raise sufficient donations for the Woodland Trust to plant many more trees to help combat climate change (and cover his carbon footprint!)

Flying into Lukla, this exciting trek to Everest Basecamp will take Tim via the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar and then up to the sacred lakes in the stunning Gokyo Valley. Here, he will climb Gokyo Ri which is one of the finest vantage points for Mount Everest (8848m).

Continuing his journey to basecamp, he will cross into the Khumbu Valley by way of the high and challenging Cho La (5420m). Then, from Lobuche, he will trek up to Everest Basecamp and drop back to spend a single night at the highest lodges in the Khumbu at Gorak Shep (5140m). From here, he can ascent to the 'trekkers summit' of Kala Patar (5600m) for more superb views of Everest and of the astonishing Khumbu Icefall, before trekking out by way of the famous and recently restored monastery at Thyangboche.

Please help Tim support this worthy cause!
