Glioblastoma is the most common type of primary, malignant brain tumour. It's very aggressive, with an average survival of less than a year and fewer than 10% of patients surviving five years.

Story

Many of you may remember my first fundraiser in December 2016 (10k Santa Dash) after my wife was diagnosed with an extremely rare high grade malignant brain cancer. This month we mark the 3 year anniversary of the day Carie was given her diagnosis. Our family’s lives were changed forever. During the last 3 years she has endured a major neurosurgical operation, 6 weeks of radiotherapy and 12 months of chemotherapy and following which her tumour sadly regrew. Carie endured a second neurosurgical operation and at present her scans are stable thanks to the further chemotherapy drug treatment she is currently taking and will continue to take until the drugs are no longer effective. After this there are no proven treatments for this rare brain cancer.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet historically they receive just 1% of the national spend on cancer research. Less than 20% of brain tumour patients survive longer than 5 years from their diagnosis. Carie’s neuro-oncologist is passionate about finding new treatments and leads the way in conducting crucial clinical trials. It is for this reason that I am trying to raise as much money as possible to fund vital research to try and find another effective treatment that can benefit Carie and other brain cancer patients, now and in the future.

So, I’m asking for your support, generosity and kindness whilst I prepare to take on the Three Peaks challenge in 24 hours. This involves getting my 18 stones up and down the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) all within 24 hours on August 9th 2019! I can’t sit back and just wait for a new cancer treatment to come around. I have to do something to help try and find it. Thank you so much for all your support.
