For 20 years the people of the Gulu Province of Northern Uganda have suffered unimaginable atrocities at the hands of rebel group the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA.) More than 30 000 children have been stolen from their homes, brainwashed, beaten, raped, sold as sex slaves and forced to serve as part of the LRA, taking part in the horrific acts destroying their families and communities.
Watoto Childcare ministries, a charitable organisation already caring for HIV / Aids orphans in Kampala region, will this year set up a Rehabilitation Centre and children’s village in Gulu. We are a few mothers with babies and toddlers who, with the help of many friends, are aiming to raise funds to build a house for HIV and war-affected orphans. This house will form part of the new Watoto village in Gulu and will accommodate 8 children and a house mother.
The mission of Watoto is to raise the next generation of Ugandan leaders by placing parentless children in families where the necessary love, care, and physical needs are provided. Watoto's goal is to equip these precious children with the essential moral values and life skills that will enable them to make a significant and lasting impact.
