We are here at every step to support you with and beyond cancer.

Story

On behalf of the Craig Hall memorial fund, we’re pleased to launch our 3rd Steel City Cycle Challenge to support the Western Park Cancer Charity. This year our aim is to raise at least £10,000 to add to the existing £29,754 already raised for the charity, by cycling 100 miles in one day.

Along Dane Whitehouse (from Sheffield United), we will be joined by other ex-players like Mitch Ward (Sheffield United and Barnsley) and Ritchie Humphreys, the current PFA Chairman

The 100 mile cycle ride will include climbing over 7,243 feet in a day, taking in key regional landmarks like Chatsworth House, Roche Abbey – the home of the St Ledger - and Wentworth House. It’s with special honour and respect that Professor Coleman, who treated me for cancer successfully in 1993 and thousands of other people during his time working at Western Park, will be joining us for part of the ride.

Our objective is to promote the specialist care that Western Park hospital provides to over 1.8 million people within the South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire region. Also with the primary aim to encourage people to support this very worthy charity and our cycle challenge.

Did you know that over 67% of patients at the hospital come from outside of Sheffield which includes over 5,400 new patients per annum? The consultants provide over 8,000 days per year providing treatment and delivering chemotherapy.

This is why the charity means so much to me:

“During that difficult period, I had fantastic support from my friends and family. My cousins, Craig and Andrew Hall, inspired me to think about travelling the world when I got better and this gave me the motivation to get well. Fortunately I did make a full recovery, so I spent the next two years travelling.”

During the trip Craig joined Marvin to travel around Asia and Australia, which was one of the most rewarding periods of his life. Craig loved Australia so much that he was determined to live there in the future.

Marvin continued: “Sadly he passed away and left a massive hole in our hearts. Following his death, along with his close friends, we created the CRAIG HALL Memorial Fund for whom we hold regular charity events to support cancer care in the South Yorkshire region. So far, I am proud to say that have raised £47,754 in Craig’s memory.”
