Loch Ness Challenge · 6 September 2018

To raise money for the Sailors' Society to continue supporting the welfare of seafarers.

Story

From one monster to the next....

Some at international shipping publication TradeWinds might say London-based company employee Tom Lovejoy is "at one with the water", so is there a better way to demonstrate that than actually getting on the water itself and searching for another monster in the Highlands of Scotland?

TradeWinds is teaming up with the Sailors' Society to take part in a 60-mile (96-kilometre), four-day canoeing adventure down the Great Glen Canoe Trail in Scotland in September.

And its team of two - deputy chief sub editor Tom Lovejoy and Cai Sim - will tackle the trip from Fort William to Inverness as they go in search of 'Nessie' in a bid to raise money for the international maritime charity.

As both participants are no strangers to personal humiliation in the name of fun and humour (just ask members of TradeWinds' London and Oslo offices, or Tower Hamlets Canoe Club in London), it's safe to say a series of 'out-there' activities will be lined up over the next few months in a bid to hit the fundraising target. Expect pictures/videos/gifs to follow.

All donations are welcome, so keep your eyes and ear open for the next fundraiser...

The Sailors' Society is an organisation that offers support to seafarers and their wider families when factors such as vessel abandonment, hostage situations (kidnappings and piracy), death and loneliness at sea rip holes in their lives. Help is also on hand to rebuild seafaring communities hit by natural disasters, such as Hurricane Haiyan.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
