Trek26 Lake District - 26 miles · 1 June 2024 ·
Meet Libby and Linda, both on their wedding days in the 60s. On the left is Libby, Ant's mother; Hels' mum is Linda, on the right. If you know one or both of them, you will know them to be bright, engaging, interested and welcoming people.
In these pictures, they are young, vibrant, at the door to adulthood, motherhood and rich, busy lives.Today they both carry a diagnosis of the wretched disease Alzheimer’s dementia.
Linda, thankfully, is still at home, leading a normal life, for the most part.
Libby, tragically, is a great deal further down the stony, fog-bound path of the condition than Linda and is already being cared for in a nursing home.
We, Ant and Hels, hate to see this awful thing hanging over our dear old mums. That's why we have decided to walk, on 1st June, further than either of us have ever walked before, in a place we have never seen, for as long as it takes, to help raise as much money as we can on behalf of Alzheimer's Society.
We are well aware that, apparently, one in two of us will, in our lives, be affected by Alzheimers either as a sufferer, a carer or a relative. 50% of us. Look at the person next to you right now. It's either them or you.
Alzheimer's Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by funding ground-breaking reseach and campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be.
We hope you will help us reach our target. The more we raise, the easier the 26 miles will seem for us!
Thank you everyone in advance.
With love
Ant & Hels xx
