We deliver critical medical care to save lives across the Thames Valley

Story

Due to the recent events of COVID-19 our original plan of cycling from Hadrians wall to Radley on the 5th of July has had to be changed. We will now be covering the 400 miles however we will do this by cycling to each others houses, and camping in our gardens. This will mean that we will still be able to cover the 80 miles per day however it is a shame that we can no longer cycle from Hadrians wall to Radley as we planned.

On the 5th of July 2020, the six of us will embark on a huge challenge of cycling 400 miles. This challenge will see us climb 25,000 feet over the week, averaging 5,000 ft. a day covering 80 miles cycling each day.

It is a massive challenge for us all, as we have NEVER been on road bikes before, only mountain bikes, so we will be spending the next four months training hard to be as ready as we can be.

We are undertaking this challenge for one incredible charity – The Thames Valley Air Ambulance. This charity relies 100% on charitable donations, it receives no national lottery or government funding and without donations, it would not be able to operate and save our lives daily.

Unlike a land ambulance, the TVAA helicopter and emergency response vehicles are manned by a paramedic and a doctor team. With a doctor on board, they can bring the skills and expertise of a hospital to the scene of an incident. The pilots, paramedics, and doctors work together as a team, along with other emergency services to deliver the best care for the patients.

The TVAA paramedics and doctors have also taken on additional roles supporting NHS colleagues during the Pandemic, their roles include:

- Working alongside frontline NHS teams treating the most severely ill COVID-19 patients in a hospital within the region

- Enhancing the transfer capabilities available, thanks to the donation of two ambulances from St John Ambulance.

- Continuing to provide a pre-hospital critical care service

Currently, the TVAA have a shortage in a piece of lifesaving equipment called the Tempus Pro. This is a highly advanced vital signs monitor and defibrillator which allows the patient to be revived and stabilised at the scene and then taken straight to the operating theatre. The Tempus Pro contains a camera that has a live stream from the site of the accident to the hospital, allowing a specialist to know exactly what is going on and they can be ready to receive them when they arrive.

It is the Tempus Pro and other life-saving equipment that we are undertaking this challenge for and would so value your support in helping us achieve this for the TVAA. A member of our team has witnessed first-hand how important those first few moments are in saving a family member’s life, thanks to the quick response and the medical expertise they received, they are here today and we want to make sure more people can be as lucky.

Any donation made will help the TVAA continue to fly over us and we would like to say thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page and for your support.
