Hi everyone,
Well, we've joined this party a little late (the walk is September 14th!), but better late than never. Please read on to see a brief message from us, and a 'wee request.
I've been thinking a lot about diabetes lately, the way it effects our family - our present and our future. We do not ever want Grace to feel that she is different, or introduce herself/label herself as "a diabetic". But at the same time, we want her to know that she's not alone, that her trials and tribulations are not insignificant, and that she should be proud of the life that she lives.
We also want her to know that there are people out there working every day to change the future for her, Mike, and the other millions of people like them. And we want her to know that she can do something to help those hardworking people find a cure. That a little exercise on her part, along with some caring friends, can lead to the discovery that could change her and her Dad's life.
So if you're in Aberdeen and don't have plans for September 14th, please come meet us at Hazelhead for a wee walk round the park. If you can't join us in body but would like to be with us in spirit, please consider donating a small sum to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, to help those brilliant and hard working researchers out there find a cure for Grace and Mike.
Thanks to everyone for all your support,
Layla, Mike, Grace, Clara, and Kate
